HOW TO SET UP ZOOM
We are so excited to have you come to one of our online events! They have been so fun to host and great to see all your faces! As you know from the registration we did mention that the event would be hosted on the Zoom Platform. Your Zoom-Room needs to be set up, and ready to go BEFORE the event. We unfortunately do not have time to troubleshoot every person through set up at the start of each event. That takes time away from not only them but you too, so it is IMPERATIVE that you know what to do. Please do not email us, do not send a message to Robert through Facebook messenger or call the office the day of the event!
We cannot trouble shoot this for you.
The staff created this guide to help you work through getting Zoom set up and running on your device. You must know how to login correctly and things to check if you have issues of any sort. Please make sure you have this installed and have run through these steps long before you sign in for the event! If you have issues please feel free to refer back to this page for troubleshooting. Again we are so excited to have you and can’t wait to see you soon!
YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING BEFORE YOUR EVENT!
JOINING THE MEETING
When you join the meeting, from any device, you are going to be prompted to join the meeting with video and audio. You will have the option to choose ‘no video’ or ‘video’.
You will want to join with video. It is critical for the readings and classes that you are able to not only see, but for Robert to see you.
If you get in and we tell you that we can’t see you, you will need to make sure your video is working. To turn your video on, you will need to click on your ‘video’ to start video. Refer to the photos below to see what they look like on and off. These will be located in the bottom left hand corner.
Your audio should default as on when you join the meeting. It will automatically use the audio your device is using. If you want it to use something else, you can select it once in the room.
It is critical that your audio works so that Robert can interact with you during the meeting.
If you get in and we tell you that we can’t hear you, you will need to make sure your audio is working. To turn your audio on, you will need to click on your ‘audio’ to start sound. Refer to the photos below to see what they look like on and off. These will be located in the bottom left hand corner.
PICK YOUR DEVICE
Zoom is avaliable on Desktop, Ipad, Iphone, Tablets and Smartphones. For you to connect to the events, you will need to be on one of these devices.
Your device will need to be equipped with a camera and a microphone. All smartphones and tablets come with those features, however your desktop might not. Please check!
To use Zoom on your desktop you will need to first visit Zoom.us. If you don’t already have an account, you will need to register for one. It is FREE! You will need to verify with your email, so make sure you do that step before you proceed.
Once you have verified your account, you have one of two options on how you can join the meeting. You can download their desktop app, or join the meeting from the website. Below are instructions on how to both.
JOINING VIA WEBSITE
To join the meeting via website, you will visit Zoom.us on the day of your event. On the header you will see the option to ‘Join a Meeting’. You will click this. Here you are prompted to enter your meeting ID. This was shared with you in the email about the event. If all you got was a link, it is the last digits in the link. You will enter the numbers and hit join.
JOIN VIA APP
If you installed the app from Zoom.us you are going to enter the event differently than on the website. When you open the app, you will want to click on ‘join’, then enter the meeting id, choose your name, and make sure the items for audio and video ARE NOT checked. Then join in the event.
TABLET OR SMARTPHONE
To use Zoom on your tablet or smartphone you will need to first download the Zoom app. To get that for IOS (apple) go here. To get it for Android go here. If you don’t already have an account, you will need to register for one. It is FREE! You will need to verify with your email, so make sure you do that step before you proceed. All of that can be done in the app.
Once you have verified your account, you will now be able to join the meeting in your tablet or smartphone.
You will open the app, and then press ‘join’ from here you will input the meeting id. This is the last digits from the url. You can choose how your name appears here as well.
